JUAREZ - Yesterday Mayor Jose Reyes Ferriz swore to retired military officer, graduate of Staff Roberto Orduña Cruz as the new head of the Municipal Public Security Secretariat (SSPM) in this border.
The outgoing police chief, Guillermo Prieto Quintana, was not present at the formal ceremony but Reyes Ferriz said he gave the job to his replacement during a private event prior to the swearing.
"Those who thought that the municipal police had been defeated and had given up against the cowardly attacks by organized crime, today we are here to society to tell those voices to be wrong," said Mayor .

According to the newspaper Norte in Juarez are "341 the number of violent killings so far this year (25 crimes, mostly in 2007) and 78 killings in May."
